Casual Construction

Casual Construction

A two month show created out of painted pallets. The viewer was invited to move, stand or play with any of the 24 pallets. During the second month, the viewer was invited to become the artist by sketching out what they would do if they had 24 pallets at their disposal. Two ideas were then picked and created, lasting about two weeks each. At the end of the show, pallets were placed curbside, picked up and put back into shipping rotation.

Right Brain

Right Brain Project

I was approached by RACC (Regional Arts and Culture Council) to see if I could come up with an idea on how to have a student show that would travel throughout the region for 6 to 9 months. I have always wanted to use those moving PODS for something, and this was the project. A mobile (as well as storable) gallery that contained 3 monitor stations as well as listening areas.

Words Witout Walls at W+K

Words Without Walls

This was a Caldera Arts inspired project working with students between the ages of 13-17. The project included a television wall which displayed videos created by the students; a 'Pod' wooden structure that projected the students poems and videos simultaneously; students poems printed on clear overhead projector plastic (this made the words hard to see unless something was behind the poem like a hand or a piece of paper). Shown at the W+K building in Portland and gallery space in Redmond

Love Show Portland

The Love Show

Massive group show by Launch Pad Gallery in Portland. 100+ artists created works that were housed in a refurbished industrial warehouse and shown during the month of February. The piece you see here was created from six rings of plastic cups that sat on top of each other. It was one of the only floor pieces to be submitted to the show which made for an interesting place for children to play in.

Holocene Mini Golf

Holocene Artist Mini Putt-Putt

A collaborative project with artist John Larsen. The idea was centered around the name Tiger Woods. The hole was a collection of abandoned pallets that were cut up into pieces and arranged to look like a tiger. The space itself was filled with a yellow glow to give the feeling of being in the bright sun of the Serengeti. This was my third Holocene Mini Putt Putt where past holes included an outhouse and a minimal one putt hole.

100 Patterns

100 patterns

Project involving fiber glass, plastic resign and stenciled patterns. All patterns were first created in Photoshop and/or Illustrator, printed and cut out on clear transparency sheets. Sizes varied from one to two foot squares that glowed in the sunlight.

The Bird Show

The Bird and Garden Show

Getting to show work outside park setting rarely happens in Portland. I was given a chance to show at a community garden under a freeway in Portland, and jumped at it! The show included minimal pieces that doubled as bird houses. Pieces were placed throughout the garden in many forms that resembled flowers and vines. All works were created from plastic cups.

Welcome To My Office

Step Into My Office

The Kitchen Sink crew's second Portland show that let artists take over half a floor of office space in Old Town, Portland. In this collaborative project, Vicki Lynn Wilson-Larsen, Dirty Walter Lee, John Larsen and myself developed the E.A.N. (Exterior Area Network) were the viewer was invited to communicate with people in other rooms as well as on the ground sidewalk through the use of irrigation pipes.

The Nice PLastic

The Nice Plastic

A show that consisted entirely of plastic cups, bowls and serving dishes purchased at 13 of the local Target stores. Stores were completely bought out of cups and bowls for this project which consisted of pieces numbered in the thousands came in only 4 colors. Pieces included standing flower like objects (as seen here) to what I like to call a 'poor mans Chihuli' chandelier composed of over five hundred pieces.

Red Light Project at The Jupiter Hotel

Red Light Project

This project happened in correlation with Affair, an art show at the Jupiter Hotel. The Jupiter Hotel was changed from their distinguished blue glow to red in a course of a few minutes. The hotel stayed red for the weekend and then slowly changed back to blue on a lazy Sunday evening. Most of the lights were donated after the project and some can still be seen on the outside of the Hearth building at Caldera in Central Oregon.

The String Project

String Project

Several string projects exist throughout the city of Portland. Two office buildings have permanent pieces that measure over twenty-five feet long and three feet wide of rich colored string and thread. This thread is wrapped over and over to create thick bands of color that resemble ribbon. This tactile project is constantly touched by viewers investigating what material was used to create these wall pieces. Smaller versions which were called 'Portables' were also created around the larger pieces.

International Symposium of Art and Design Korea

International Symposium of Art and Design

Ulsan, South Korea hosted this symposium working with artists and designers from around the globe to promote cross continental sharing of ideas visually. My entry was 'Second Place Americana', which was images taken after a bowling tournament where the team had come in second place. Korea (I came to find out) is a country that takes bowling very seriously. Images were not for purchase but could be downloaded online for free when asked about in the gallery.

Dove Lewis

Dove Lewis

Once a year local animal hospital Dove Lewis has artists donate works created around animals. This piece was created out of printing dog images on tracing paper, then hand painting bits of color and covering the whole thing in plastic resin. The painting/collage was turned into a calendar.

52 Ltd Party

Hoyt Street Building

Ceiling installation made from white plastic waste baskets and lit from behind with fluorescent colored lighting. The project planning for this instal included measures to protect the exposed timber that the project was attached to. The plastic receptacles were used several times for other projects before placing them in retirement after the Rosie Awards in 2005.

Plastic In The Park

Guerrilla Plastic in the Parks

Large sheets of painters plastic were placed in between paths at various parks throughout the city. The sound of the plastic in the wind, as well as the translucency of the material, made for a calming effect. The thin plastic had the feel of puffy clouds or water ripples when blown by the wind.

Hand to Word

Hand to Word

A collaborative, anonymous exchange between a writer and two artist. Poet Lacey Young, artist Kamaya Lindquist and myself participated in a secret collaboration involving the trade of ideas that started from a poem, then responded to through a piece of art. This process was repeated over the course of three months. At one point during the exchange the poet was asked to place herself in the seat of the artist which was done by handing her a map that led her to a camera to record her thoughts through images.
